Balon d'Or

The fact that Benzema won the Ballon d'Or this year was not such a surprise for anybody because he had had such an amazing season. He had won La Liga, the Champion’s League, the Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup. Last season, Benzema scored forty-four goals, 27 in La Liga, fifteen in the Champion’s League, one in La Copa del Rey and another one in the Super Cup.The french attacker also has a great amount of assists with twelve in La Liga and two in the Champions League. He is a fantastic striker and proves that on the pitch every match. However, he is also humble and a real team player, always happy to pass the ball if that benefits the team.


The women’s Ballon d'Or was given to Barcelona’s midfielder, Alexia Putellas. Whilst Barcelona didn’t win the Champion’s League final, they did win the La Liga title, amongst others. She scored an impressive thirty-four goals and made thirteen appearances. She is an impressive Spanish midfielder who very much deserved this prestigious award.


The Socrates Award was given to a player from Senegal, Sadio Mané. This award goes to the most intelligent player, and this year Fifa think that Sadio Mané deserves it for his magnificent visualisation of every match. He played for Liverpool last year but has now moved to Bayern Munich.


Finally, the Kopa award was given to Gavi, the 18 year old player from Barcelona. This award is given to the best player under 20 and Gavi has had a admirable season with Barcelona. He might be young and small, but he has already earned the respect of his team and coach.
